To plan your wedding in Bali you may select one of the following wedding forms that could be arranged:

A. FULL LEGAL WEDDING & CEREMONY
You will experience two types of ceremonies; the religious part will first be performed followed by a civil ceremony. The religious part will be conducted by a representative of the couples own religious belief (i.e. a Priest for Catholic, a Minister for Protestant, a Celebrant for Hindu and Buddhist and a Penghulu for Moslem). Requirements to obtain Certificate of No Impediment will be based on the couple nationalities. There will be two certificates presented at the end of the ceremony, one from the Church and the other from the Civil Registrar.

B.0 RELIGIOUS WEDDING
A Religious Wedding Ceremony must be performed before a Civil Ceremony. Therefore for those who would or has already been legally married in their country but wish to exchange their vows or even renew their vows may take this type of service. It is important that Indonesia will marry any couple who hold one of the 5 religions recognized by this country (Protestant, Catholic, Moslem, Hindu, Buddhism) and actually prefer that the couple are of the same religious belief.

Catholic Weddings are considered to be religious and are led by a Catholic Priest. Much paper work will be required by both you and your partner. You both must be single status, as the Catholic Church will not allow for divorced people to marry unless the former spouse was not Catholic. The Wedding should be performed at the Church and led by the Catholic Priest.  This ceremony will be legal by religion only. Any couple that wishes to be legally married must have the civil ceremony performed by the Civil Minister from the Indonesian Government on the same day as the religious ceremony.

Documents required for Catholic wedding:

1. Copy of passport (both partners)
2. Copy of birth certificate (both partners)
3. Copy of ´Absolute Divorce Decree´ if you or your partner were divorced
4. Widow/widower must present a copy of the death certificate for his/her former spouse
5. Passport copies from two witnesses
6. 6 photographs size 4x6 (as per photos in your passport, both together)
7. Baptism certificate from both partners
8. Letter of single status from parish (both of you must contact a priest in your home country)
9. Delegation letter from parish (both of you must contact your parish in your home country)
10. Canon investigation from Parish priest (both of you must contact the priest in your home country)

Christian/Protestant Weddings is also a religious wedding which is led by a Protestant Celebrant who is called a pendeta. This is a fairly easy wedding ceremony to perform, because it doesn´t require much paperwork. The couple will receive a ´Certificate of Marriage´ from the Protestant Church in Bali. If the couple chooses to legalize their marriage, they can then proceed with the Civil Ceremony on the same day and at the same venue. Afterwards, they will receive another certificate of marriage from the Civil Minister which will be in both English and Indonesian. These certificates are also deemed legal in your home country.

Documents Required:

1. Copy of passport (both partners)
2. Copy of birth certificate (both partners)
3. Copy of ´Absolute Divorce Decree´
4. Widow/Widower must present a copy of death certificate of her/his former spouse.
5. Copy of passport of the two witnesses
6. 4 photographs size 4 x 6 together with the groom on the right side

Moslem Wedding does not require a civil ceremony, because it has a different procedure than other religions. This ceremony is conducted by a Moslem minister who is called Penghulu. After the ceremony, the Moslem Minister will give you a book of marriage from KUA (Moslem Court) called Buku Nikah. This will already be legalized by the government and is deemed legal in Indonesia and in other countries as long as it is translated in to the language where the couple originates from.

Document Required For Moslem Wedding:

1. Copy of passport (both partners) or KTP for Indonesia
2. Copy of birth certificate (both partners)
3. Copy of ´Absolute Divorce Decree´
4. Copy of death certificate and previous marriage certificate (if widowed)
5. Letter of ´No Impediment to Marriage´ from your Consulate within Indonesia
6. Letter of single status from Lurah/Camat which must be legalized by the civil office where you stay in Indonesia
7. Letter of N1, N2, N3 and N4 from Moslem court where couple resides in Indonesia
8. (6) photographs size 2 x 3 and 3 x 4 of both partners

Buddhist WEDDING Blessing should be performed at Vihara (Buddhist temple) and led by the Pandita or Buddhist Monk.

In order to perform a Buddhist Wedding Blessing, you must abide by the rules and regulations of the Buddhist Society which is called WALUBI. You are required to submit the following documents:

1. Copy of passport (both partners)
2. Copy of KTP (Kartu Tanda Penduduk) for Indonesian
3. Copy of birth certificate (both partners)
4. Copy of ´Absolute Divorce Decree´ if either of you has been married before
5. Copy of death certificate and previous marriage certificate (if widowed)
6. 8 photographs size 4 x 6

Balinese Blessing Ceremony, many couples who are ALREADY LEGALLY MARRIED or, for some reason don't wish to be legally married in Bali but do wish to experience a Balinese Ceremony may experience a Balinese Blessing Ceremony. No documents are needed to perform this ceremony and you will not receive any certificate. It is recommended that couples dress in Balinese traditional costumes which are included in our wedding package. During the ceremony couples should pray for each other´s safety, health, a bright future and happiness. It takes approximately 20 minutes in total, performed by a Balinese Celebrant and an assistant who guide the couple through the ceremony. It is preferred that couples are dressed in Balinese Costume.

A. CIVIL CEREMONY
This type of service could be a choice for couple who has been religiously married in their country. We will then require a copy of marriage certificate issued by the representatives of their own religious belief, as it is the Indonesian law to always perform a religious ceremony before the civil ceremony

B. RENEWAL VOWS
Renewal vows are re-declaration wedding vows. The couple can write their own vows and choose any type of wedding ceremony. This is a wonderful way for couples to reunite and solidify their bond together. There is no certificate.

WEDDING FORMALITIES AND PROCEDURES IN INDONESIA

In accordance with Law No. 1 of 1974 concerning marriages in Indonesia (Article 2 (1): "a marriage is legitimate if it has been performed according to the laws of the respective religious beliefs of the parties concerned."

Any couple who are of one of the five (5) religions recognized by the Government of Indonesia as follows: Christian ­ Protestant and Christian ­ Catholic, Islam, Hinduism or Buddhism may be legally married in Indonesia. However, the preference is that the couple be of the same religious belief. The marriage should be registered with the district Civil Registrar and the ceremony must be performed under religious rites.

A Christian ­ Protestant, Christian ­ Catholic, Hindu or Buddhist marriage is usually performed first in a church or temple ceremony. After the religious ceremony, every non­Islamic marriage for those from foreign nations must be recorded with the Civil Registry (Kantor Catatan Sipil). Without the registration by the Civil Registry these marriages are not legal. Recording by Civil Registry officials can be performed after the religious ceremony.

The Religious Marriage under Islam is performed by the Office of Religious Affairs (Kantor Urusan Agama) in a ceremony at a mosque, or any other place chosen by the couple and is legal immediately after the ceremony.

Persons of non­Islamic faith are required to file with the Civil Registry Office in the Regency where they are staying. Persons from foreign nations are also required to file the following forms: 1) a ´Notice of Intention to Marry´ and 2) a ´Letter of No Impediment to Marriage´ which can be obtained from their consular representatives.

For the "Letter of No Impediment to Marriage" requirement, you will need to present passports for both you and your fiancÉ(e). These passports must be valid for more than 6 months. If you or your fiancÉ(e) have been married before, you must provide a certified divorce decree(s). If you or your fiance´s former husband or wife is deceased, you must provide a death certificate as evidence of his or her death. Please contact the Consular Representative of your country for details well before the intended date of marriage.

For the ´Letter of Intention to Marry´ you must submit the following documents for both partners to the Civil Registry Office (show the original and present a photocopy):

1. Birth certificates for both Bride & Groom
2. Detailed copies of valid passport for both Bride & Groom
3. Details of religious faith; (ie baptism certificate).
4. Occupations & domiciles for both parties
5. Written parental consent for any person under the age of 21 (Men 18 - 21yrs and Women 16 - 21yrs)
6. Death certificate of former spouse (when relevant)
7. Absolute Divorce Decree (when relevant)
8. Details of names, addresses, and professions of witnesses. Two (2) witnesses over the age of 18 years are required. Witnesses must present photocopies of their valid passport if they are foreign citizens. If you do not have any witnesses these can be arranged in Bali.
9. Six (6) photographs (6 x 4cm) of the couple in the same photo. Photo must be of the head & shoulders only, side by side (groom on the right), looking straight ahead. These photos will be attached to your wedding certificate: (1 (one) will be attached to the original certificate from the Civil Registrar and 1 (one) will be attached to the certificate from the church of your religion.
10. A letter signed by both parties certifying that the marriage is based on mutual agreement

*Copies of documents can be faxed to us but all originals must be brought to Bali for presentation and verification by the authorities.

The Civil Registry office has a Mandatory Waiting Period of 10 working days from the date of filing. This waiting period may be waived for tourists presenting a guest registration form.

Islamic Marriage Certificates (Buku Nikah) are issued by the Office of Religious Affairs (Kantor Urusan Agama) are legally valid in Indonesia and do not require registration with any other agency if you are going to live in Indonesia. However, if you might move somewhere else in the future, get a marriage certificate issued by the Civil Registry and an officially certified translation right away.

All other Marriage Certificates will be issued by the Civil Registry usually on the same or next day. A sworn English translation of the marriage certificate should be obtained for use abroad. It is not necessary for the marriage certificate or translation to be registered by your Consular Agency. However, to have the sworn translation of the marriage certificate verified or a special translation made by the Consular Agency of your home country or the Consular Agency of your country of residence might prove useful.

Wedding venue in Bali can be arranged in a Villa, Hotel, Chapel, Church, White Sandy Beach, Private Villa, Royal Balinese Palace, or in your preferred location, atmosphere and area.

Exception: Catholic Wedding should be in Church led by The Catholic Priest & Buddhist Wedding should be performed at Vihara (Buddhist temple) and led by the Pandita or Buddhist Monk.
